Some years ago, Perry and I decided to install a ceiling fan in our living room. The people who installed it spoke no English at all so we couldn't ask any questions.


Nevertheless, the fan worked very well for three months and then stopped.


I called the repair team and a guy came right over.



He inspected the unit carefully, then picked up the remote.


He held it up and said, "You need new batteries in the remote."


What? How can batteries run out in three months?


"I bet that happens all the time, right?"


"No. No, it doesn't. I'll still have to charge you the $75 service charge."
